At Blacailloux, the vineyard has had a woman’s face for over a century. In 1917, while the country was plunged into the silence of war, Marguerite Barbaroux planted the estate’s first vines. It was not merely an agricultural endeavor; it was a promise made to the future.
Today, that promise is being carried forward by Valentine de Lasteyrie, his great-granddaughter. She is not merely inheriting an estate; she is reviving a legacy of commitment.
Valentine didn’t become the head of the estate simply out of tradition. Her journey has been shaped by a growing conviction. It was during her studies at Harvard that she decided to dedicate herself to advancing women in all fields. In 2018, she co-founded the SISTA collective, a driving force that is shaking up the digital economy by directing investments toward women-led companies.
In Blacailloux, she continues this fight. She champions a vision in which women—whether they are winemakers, oenologists, or tractor drivers—finally find their rightful place, free from stereotypes.
The “Sœurs” cuvée—Li Sore in Provençal—is where this family history and social commitment come together. It doesn’t tell the story of the wine; it tells the story of why we make it. Valentine and her sisters, Marine and Florentine, conceived Sœurs as a socially conscious cuvée that promotes the values they uphold every day.
Here, profit is not an end in itself, but a means to an end: all proceeds from this vintage are donated in full to various organizations that support women. Every bottle opened provides tangible support for the defense of women’s rights and the fight against violence against women.
This philosophy of passing on knowledge goes beyond mere numbers. It is deeply rooted in the land itself. The 500-hectare estate, nestled at the foot of Sainte-Baume, is farmed organically. Under the leadership of Valentine and her sisters, Marine and Florentine, Blacailloux aims to have a positive impact by 2030. We don’t force nature—we live in harmony with it. The 300 hectares of preserved forests, beehives, and olive groves form an ecosystem where biodiversity is the only rule.
Choosing Sœurs means stepping into this “inner Provence,” which seeks to shine not through ostentation, but through the integrity of its actions. It means recognizing that behind the label lies a fierce determination to push the boundaries. Valentine de Lasteyrie doesn’t just produce a rosé; she fosters a community of shared convictions.
At Blacailloux, we know that time is our greatest ally—the time it takes for the vines to ripen slowly at an altitude of 400 meters, and the time it takes for mindsets to finally change.
“Sœurs” serves as the link between Marguerite, who gazed toward the horizon in 1917, and Valentine, who is building a more equitable, more open, and decidedly forward-looking industry today.
